EARLY RED TRANSFERWARE CHILD'S PLATE
CHINESE AMUSEMENT ! JUMPING THE ROPE
Staffordshire, England ~ c. 1840
This is an early transferware child's plate made of a soft paste earthenware. The plate measures 6 1/2" in diameter. It is crisply transfer printed in red with a light pearlware glaze.
The scalloped rim's border is impressed with three American eagles, interspersed between floral cartouches. Hand clobbered in shades of cobalt blue. red and green. A rare Historical border for children's wares.
The central image transfer in lovely red is crisp and well defined showing a young girl in an exotic landscape skipping and jumping the rope, entitled "Chinese Amusement ~ Jumping the Rope".
The plate is in excellent condition, with no chips, cracks or repairs. A very small amount of roughness can be felt along the edge with your fingers.
