PEARLWARE CHILD'S TRANSFERWARE MUG
MILKMAID and COWS
Staffordshire England ~ c. 1840
This little child's transferware mug, circa 1840. This diminutive piece stands 2 3/4" tall x 2 3/4" wide with an applied loop handle. Hand colored in shades of cherry red, green and golden yellow. The mug is light weight and beautifully potted with a heavy pearlware glaze. The mug has an engine turned base.
It is transfer printed in black with a scene on the front of the mug of a milk maid carrying a bucket, standing beside her two favorite cows. Her farmhouse is in background, settled in the mountains, with lush vegetation.
The piece is unmarked. It most certainly was made in the Staffordshire district.
The mug is in excellent condition, with a nick on the foot rim and no chips, cracks or repairs. Bright and clean.
