Rare Early Figural Spaniel Coin Bank
Staffordshire England 1910
This fantastic porcelain novelty money box or fairing was made as a giveaway at a fair or as a reward of merit given to a good child as a special gift. A highly attractive prize for any child, the little figural penny bank stands 2 inches high, made in the shape of the head of Cavalier King Charles Spaniel, just like the favorite pet of Queen Victoria.
The puppy dog has a blenheim (red and white) coat and is wearing a blue collar with a bell. The coin bank was painted on a nicely modeled bisque base finished in high quality shiny clear glaze.
The bank dates to c 1910, and was made in England. The money box is not marked with a manufacturer's backstamp, but is guaranteed to be genuine, early and original.
A wonderful whimsical gift for a young child, dog lover or King Charles Spaniel fan.
The little antique bank has a firing crack on the bottom, original to the making, and no chips cracks or restoration. It has never been cracked open and there is no damage to the coin slot. We have not attempted to clean it. The dog's head has signs that it was rubbed frequently with little hands, maybe for good luck. Just the right size for a child's little hand.
We have also listed a companion Tiger Cat head bank...the start of a great collection.
