Rare Early Pearlware Childs Miniature Dinner Set

SEAWEED FLORAL CHINTZ

Charles Meigh Staffordshire England c1835

This is a stunning 36 piece childs miniature toy set c. 1835. Originally part of a complete children's toy dinner service, the set is comprised of:

~5 dinner plates, 3-3/4 inches across
~3 soup plates, 3-3/4 inches across
~5 salad plates, 3 inches across (1 chip on back side)
~3 pie plates, 2-1/2 inches across
~Open vegetable server, octagonal, 3 inches across, ½ inch deep (glaze flakes on back edge)
~6 graduated platters, octagonal, 2 each @ 3-1/2, 4-1/4 and 5-1/4 inches long
~Lidded soup tureen, 5 inches tall, 5-1/2 inches across
~Gravy pitcher or sauce boat, 2 inches tall, 3-1/2 inches long (large chip on top rim)
~2 lidded vegetable tureens, 4-1/2 inches across, 3 inches tall (old nibbles on foot rim and top rim)
~2 lidded sauce tureens with undertrays, 3-1/2 inches tall, 3-1/2 inches across (old nibbles on foot rim and top rim)

Decorated with an overall floral chintz medley of tiny primrose and seaweed ferns on a 10-panel form. It has been attributed to Charles Meigh in the Staffordshire district in England in the early to mid-19th century. The pattern is especially earthy and beautiful in garden green. The decoration was elaborately designed with impeccable detailing for the diminutive size of the piece. The pattern name is unknown. The pieces are unmarked.

The set is in great condition with only the minor damage described above. No other chips, cracks or repairs. Mild patina to a couple of pieces, the rest are clean. Stilt marks, glaze ponding and other minor manufacturing flaws, original to the making, adding to the authenticity and not detracting from the beauty. The design is elegant and striking and will make a wonderful display and a rare addition to any collection of childrens or miniature dolls elegant table wares, pocket sized works of art.
