Rare Childs Doll Size Cup & Saucer
BLUE TIN GLAZE MAJOLICA
possibly Staffordshire England c1890
This fantastic micro miniature size cup and saucer set is a stunning and scarce ceramic pottery toy, circa 1890. Originally part of a complete miniature children's tea set, the hand made tiny cup stands ½ inch tall and measures 1-1/8 inches across the top rim, with a miniscule applied loop handle. The saucer measures 1-3/4 inches across the top rim with a cup ring and turned base. Wheel turned, glazed with blue Majolica tin glaze. A nice example of a very uncommon miniature. The set is unsigned, and the maker is unknown. It may hail from a 19th century pottery manufactory in the Staffordshire region of England, which is where we found it.
The set in great condition with no chips cracks or repairs. Minor typical firing imperfections consistent with age... the saucer underside has some glaze skips and edge roughness. This fine little set is a pocket sized work of art. A fine example of the Victorian love of early toy and miniature wares. We have separately listed a similar micro mini set in green glaze.
