EARLY CHILDS TRANSFERWARE MUG

MOTTO ~ SINNERS

Staffordshire England ~ c. 1840

This is whimsical little child's transferware mug, circa 1840. This diminutive piece stands 2 1/2 “ tall x 2 3/4 “ wide with an applied loop handle. The mug is light weight and beautifully potted with a pearlware glaze. It is transfer printed in red with a snowflake and dish-chain surrounding the motto:

IF SINNERS ENTICE THE, CONSENT THOU NOT

The piece is unmarked. It most certainly was made in the Staffordshire district. Mugs like this were made to aid in children's education and moral training.

The condition of this exceptional mug is GREAT. Clean and bright, and very little wear. There is a very small shrinkage line inside the pot natural to the making.
