Royal Doulton Gnomes Series Plate,
Charles Noke D4697 Staffordshire England 1930
This is a delightful circa 1930 Royal Doulton plate from the famous ‘Gnomes’ series, pattern number D4697. The plate measures 5-3/4 inches square with decorative corners.
The design depicts a starry nighttime view of a large tree trunk and patches of mushrooms inhabited with 6 gnomes hidden amongst the roots. It is decorated with gilded patterns including cobwebs. The imagery was inspired by Arthur Rackham's illustrations for 'Peter Pan in Kensington Gardens', 1906 and designed by Charles Noke.
The reverse is stamped with the Royal Doulton stamp ‘Made In England, an impressed date 3-30 and the pattern number.
The plate is in great condition with a couple of pinpoint glaze flakes on the edge and no other chips cracks or repairs. Sold as shown, as is.
