Rare CHINOISERIE Transferware Miniature Tureen with Ladle BLUE WILLOW Staffordshire England c1820
This is a rare transfer printed toy tureen with lid and stand. The tureen measures 3 inches long and stands 2-1/2 inches tall. The ladle measures 2-3/4 inches long. It is decorated in a variation of the decorative early Chinoiserie Blue Willow pattern with all of the elements of ‘blue willow’ – a pagoda, willow trees, island, boats, bridge, with a complementary Chinoiserie corder. A nice size and presentation to find in this desirable pattern and tiny form.
It is unmarked. Most certainly hails from the Staffordshire potting region of England c1820.
The tureen set in overall very good condition with a tiny chip on a corner of the foot, beginnings of an interior age line, and no other chips cracks or repairs. The foot is worn and it has glaze crazing typical of the period. Stilt marks on the bottom original to the making. A beautiful example of the miniature form of a universally desirable willow motif.
