Childs Blue Transferware 36-piece Miniature Dinner Set
Ridgways Stoke-on-Trent Staffordshire, England c. 1890
This striking transferware child dollhouse dinner set was originally part of an early complete child's dinner set. This little ironstone set includes:
· Soup tureen with lid and tray (5 inches long)
· 2 Sauce tureens with lids and trays (3-1/2 inches long)
· 1 sauce ladle (3-1/2 inches long)
· 4 graduated platters (from 4 inches to 8 inches long)
· 12 dinner plates (4 inches)
· 6 soup plates (4 inches)
· 6 cheese plates (3 inches)
The set is transfer printed in a brilliant cobalt blue (not flow blue but dark brilliant and complimentary) abundantly decorated with a lush chintz sheet print pattern, complete with paisley, flowers, bees or butterflies, and geometric whimsies, a fine example of the Victorian love of nature and the exotic. (Measurements shown above are approximate.)
The set was made by Ridgways, a pottery in Stoke-on-Trent in the Staffordshire region of England. Some of the pieces are marked with Ridgways' bow and arrow symbol and registration lozenge that dates the pattern to 1885. The individual plates have impressed 1897 date stamps.
The set is in great condition, with no chips, cracks or repairs. Stilt marks and transfer skips original to the making and consistent with age. Only minor age related wear. Sold as is, as shown. A wonderful Aesthetic pattern, richly detailed in an earthy and festive pattern. A perfect gift for the chintz lover in your life, or for any collector of early miniature dishes.
