ANTIQUE TRANSFERWARE ABC PLATE
AESTHETIC DESIGN ~ HORSE
W. Adams and Sons Tunstall, Staffordshire England 1890
This is a 7 3/8 " child's transferware Alphabet plate. The plate is light weight and beautifully potted with a pearlware glaze.
It is transfer printed in brown with the entire alphabet gracing the perimeter, complete with twining vines and a red band around the outside. The central transfer is of a Japanesque Fan surrounding a wonderful horse wrapped in wild grasses and flowers. A butterfly flits overhead and horseshoes hide among the foliage.
Plates like this were made as gifts for good children and rewards of merit, used to aid in children's education and moral training, and to encourage their imaginations.
Never Used. The condition of this ABC plate is excellent, shiny and bright.
