Pearlware Blue Spatter Ware Spongeware Miniature Coffeepot Staffordshire England c. 1830
This is rare miniature spatterware or sponge ware hand decorated pearlware coffeepot, circa 1830. Originally part of a child’s dollhouse miniature tea service, the curvaciouse tall lidded pitcher stands just 5 inches tall on a raised pedestal base. It shows the influence of the Victorian love of nature and the tradition of fine hand crafted folk arts. The decoration is applied in overall cobalt blue with hand sponge work, finished with pearlware glaze.
The pot is unmarked. It is of English origin, possibly the Staffordshire region.
The coffeepot is in overall very good condition. The lid has been restored. The base is in great condition. No other chips, cracks or repairs. Minor firing imperfections original to the making and glaze crazing consistent with age. Light overall glaze crazing The sponged and spatter decoration is clear and crisp with some blurring around the spout. A bright and earthy example. We are also listing a similar companion teapot, not a matched set but a fine complement for display.
