Antique Bronze Miniature Figural Animal
CURIOUS CAT READY FOR PLAY
Original Cold Paint 19th Century
This appealing cat figure measures 1 1/4 inches long end of the cat’s tail, and 1 inch tall to the top of the cat’s ears. He is in a half crouch, looking like he is stalking a mouse and ready to play. In his cold painted state, he was part of a series of feline cat and kitten figurines from a highly detailed child sized set. Examined through a powerful magnifier loupe, the sheer detail squeezed into this uniquely decorated model, from the end of the 19th or beginning of the 20th century is a tribute to the skills of the Austrian modelers and to the imagination of their painters. Most of his original paint has faded and can be seen primarily on the belly and face, a greyish white against the natural patina bronze.
The figurine remains in great condition, right down to her perked ears, with paint wear consistent with age. A tiny spot of chipped paint at the bottom of his mouth. Offered as is.
A delightful example of early made bronze toys for childs play and dollhouse accessories, with an irresistible theme of housepets and animals and a nice patina.
