Sepia Bat Printed Creamware Cup Plate
LOVEBIRDS & CHICKS
Wedgwood England c 1820
This is a very scarce creamware cup plate or miniature childs plate. The plate measures 4 1/2" in diameter with a brown banded edge. Decorated with an olive brown bat print of a pair of Partridge or Lovebirds tending to their brood of chicks, elegantly understated. It was made by Wedgwood, an esteemed pottery manufactory in the Staffordshire district of England. The base is marked with the Wedgwood backstamp. The plate dates to early mid 19th century or late 18th century.
The piece is in great condition, with wear consistent with age, but no chips cracks or repairs. The bat print is somewhat faded as expected. An exquisite bachelor or child size piece for any Wedgwood creamware or miniature childrens collection. A nice example of a rare bird motif.
