Antique Childs Alphabet ABC Mug
T was a Tinker who Mended a Pot
Staffordshire England ~ c. 1850
This childs ceramic mug is 3 " high x 3 " wide, excluding the applied handle, transfer printed in pea green. The mug has a transfer print of the letter " T " in upper case. A Tinker or potter sits upon his bench with tools in hand mending a pot between his legs. An attentive young boy, possibly his apprentice watches the Tinker at his task. The legend reads:
T WAS A TINKER AND MENDED A POT
The mug is in very good condition with no chips cracks or repairs. A pit mark on the bottom, original to the making, and wear to the foot rim. Would have been part of a collection of cups and mugs with the alphabet or ABC of Trades, illustrations hailing from a childs early primer book. The subject matter makes this a very desirable mug for the collector of early children's pottery.
