Gaudy Flow Blue Floral Childs 3pc Dollhouse Dinner Set Tureen
Ridgway Sparks Staffordshire, England c. 1845
This is a scarce miniature size three piece lidded sauce tureen with under tray, originally part of a complete dollhouse dinner set. The earthenware bank is an oblong ironstone paneled body with a low pedestal base measuring 4” long. It stands about 2 1/2” tall to the top of the pointy finial on octagonal lid with flared collar. Decorated in a dark flow blue or mulberry with polychrome iron red ochre and green floral embellishments, a flower bud and leaf motif with hand painted iron red leaves. The piece is beautifully made and light bodied.
This piece is unmarked except for the paint decorators mark 6909. The motif has been found on a marked example labelled ‘ALBONI’ with the backstamp of Ridgway Sparks & Ridgway in the Staffordshire district in the mid-19th century.
The tureen is in mint condition except for a minor glaze flake at the top fo the finial. No chips cracks or repairs. An elegant form and stunning example, a pocket sized work of art.
This is a rare piece, perfect for gaudy flow blue and flow mulberry fanciers and collectors of the finest transferware.
