Antique Bronze Miniature Figural Animal
CROUCHING CURIOUS KITTY CAT
Original Cold Paint 19th Century
This appealing cat figure is crouching with his ears perked up, curled tail and curious expression. He measures just 1 5/8" long and 1" tall to the top of the cat’s upright ears and the edge of the curved tail. He is crouching as cats do when they are curious and contemplative. In his cold painted state, he was part of a series of feline cat and kitten figurines from a highly detailed doll sized play set. Examined through a powerful magnifier loupe, the sheer detail squeezed into this uniquely decorated model, from the end of the 19th or beginning of the 20th century is a tribute to the skills of the Austrian modelers and to the imagination of their painters. His original paint is taupe grey and white against the natural patina bronze. The figurine remains in great condition, right down to his pink ears, pink nose and mouth, perked ears and protruding whiskers, with paint wear consistent with age as shown in the detailed photos. He is signed with an impressed AUSTRIA.
A delightful example of early made bronze toys for childs play and dollhouse accessories, with an irresistible theme of housepets and animals and a nice patina.
