Dollhouse Dinner Service Green Edge Miniature W T Copeland Staffordshire c1860
Childs Green Beaded Edge Miniature Toy Dinner Service
W T Copeland Staffordshire, England c. 1860
This is a very rare early dolls dinner service made for child’s play or to accessorize an elegant pre-Victorian dollhouse. The gorgeous little set is printed in a brilliant forest green against a creamy earthenware blank, decorated with a simple elegant and striking guilloche beaded edge.
The set is marked Copeland. The set may be attributed to Copeland & Garrett or W T Copeland who merged with Spode in 1833. The set dates to c 1860, and is a re-use of an earlier blank used to produce the desirable TOWER pattern as well as other early and later genuine doll size toy dinner sets.
The set comprises: • soup tureen with lid and tray 3 1/2" long, 3 1/4" high • 2 sauce tureens with lid and tray 2 1/2" long, 2 1/4" high • 2 square vegetable tureens with lid, 2” tall, 3” across (nibble inside one lid) • 2 oval bowls or open vegetable servers, 3 1/2" long • round deep comport or salad bowl, 1 1/4" tall, 2 1/2" across • 2 gravy pitchers or sauce boats, 2 1/2" long • 5 graduated platters, 2x5”, 4 1/2", 4”, 2x3 3/4" • 12 dinner plates, 3” diameter • 6 soup plate, 3” diameter • 12 pie plates 2 3/4" in diameter
The set is in near mint condition with only the minor issues mentioned above. In all, 1 pieces with minor damage and 51 pieces with no chips cracks or repairs.
The Copeland doll size miniature wares are extremely rare. The set is in great condition, a tiny treasure protected from harm by generations of children. A great example from a fine early set, a perfect addition to an advanced collection of miniature pearlware.
