Davenport Soft Paste Hand Decorated Pearlware Tea Set c1825
This wonderful and rare Staffordshire English pearlware tea set is hand decorated Leeds style with a five color enamel polychrome floral motif of dahlias and aster flowers painted on a creamy soft paste earthenware ground similar to Gaudy Dutch painted ware. Beautiful colorful styling with nicely molded dolphin handle and spout scalloped rim and little bun feet. Most of the pieces in the set are impressed DAVENPORT with anchor dating the set to c1830. The Davenport potteries in the Staffordshire England potting region date back to the eighteenth century and were held in high regard for consistently high quality of their wares.
The set includes: • Teapot with lid, 7” tall, 11 1/2" spout to handle. Very good condition. Chip on spout and edge of handle (pictured), very small frits around inner lid rim and rim of lid itself.
• Sugar bowl 6" long and 6" tall. Great condition with just two chips to rim of lid.
• Creamer 7" handle to spout and 4 1/2" tall. Minor enamel wear only.
• 4 handle less cups and saucers: Saucers are 6" in diameter, cups 2 1/2" tall. Minor enamel wear and staining inside two cups. No chips or cracks.
All pieces have only the slightest amount of wear to the enamel decoration. Just a beautiful colorful hand painted tea set, hard to find and quite desirable. The artist's eye and palette combine with love nature in the design. The pieces will make a fabulous addition to your collection of early hand painted soft paste earthenware. Offered as is.
