VERY EARLY CHILDS TRANSFERWARE PLATE
LOVE ~ BROTHERS AND SISTERS
Staffordshire England ~ c. 1840
This very early antique child's poetic plate measures 6 1/2 " in diameter with a lightly scalloped rim. A beautifully applied crisp image transfer printed in black with hand colored flowers surrounding the verse. The plate is further enhanced by having an application of a pearlware glaze. An impressed border of alternating pinwheel daisies compliment the plate.
LOVE between BROTHERS & SISTERS
Whatever brawls disturb the street
There should be peace at home.
Where sisters dwell brothers meet
Quarrels should never come.
Birds in theyr little nests agree
And 'tis a shameful sight
When children of one family
Fall out and chide and fight
Condition is good and displays beautifully. Clean and bright. A small shrinkage line natural to the making on the front and a chip to the rear rim.
