Early Pearlware Child's Plate
PRIDE OF THE VILLAGE
Swansea, England ~ c. 1840
This is a superb child's transferware plate was made around 1840. The plate measures 6 inches in diameter with press moulded 12 paneled rim. The dark brown transfer printing is embellished with four-color hand clobbering in blue, green, red, and gold. The plate is finely potted and finished with wonderful thick pearlware glaze.
The plate's outer edge has a blue band and the central image features The pride of the Village, a beautiful Maiden.
Plates with images like this were made in the early to mid-19th century to be given as gifts for a special occasion or rewards of merit and were also used to aid in the education of young children.
Never Used, The plate is in great condition. A very tiny mark along the rim. This fantastic transferware plate will make a gorgeous addition to any collection of early children's wares.
