Pair of Polychrome Childs Toy Dinner Plates
St Clement K&G Faience France c1890-1910
This is a very nice set of French faience children's toy plates decorated with animals children playing games, flowers and insects. Originally part of an early childs dollhouse dinner service or tea set. The plates measure 4 3/4" and 4 1/16" in diameter respectively. Made of earthenware, thickly glazed in white with transfer images of children with a hoop, a donkey with saddle, the fame of dominoes, a dragonfly and beetle, bluebells and other flowers. Decoration designed simply to entertain and educate young children, as irresistible today as when it was first made. A great gift for children of all ages!
The plates are marked with the painted number 37. The pattern was made by St Clement faiencerie which was later sold to Keller et Guerin in 1892. These early French folk art wares are hard to find. They are in very good used condition with glaze flakes to the painted rim but no other chips crack or repairs. Stilt marks and imperfections from the time of manufacture, typical of French faience.
