Early Pearlware Blue Transferware Miniature Plate LEPIDOPTERA ~ BUTTERFLY Staffordshire, England c. 1830
This glorious little transferware child's plate was originally part of an early child's or doll's miniature dinner service. The plate measures 3 3/8" in diameter with a scalloped rim, finished with pearlware glaze.The piece is transfer printed in blue, decorated with butterflies in a field of flowers, a fine example of the early Victorian love of nature and the exotic.
The maker and pattern name is unknown, but it was most likely made Staffordshire region of England in the early to mid-19th century. It has no maker's mark. A stunning piece.
The plate is in great condition, with no chips, cracks or repairs.There are stilt marks and minor transfer imperfections original to the making. A wonderful naturalistic floral and fauna plate richly detailed in an earthy and festive pattern.
