Double ABC Blind Man's Buff

Staffordshire England ~ c. 1840

This 5 1/2" plate has a crisp image transfer printed in rich sepia brown with great four color polychrome hand painting, clobbering in shades of cherry red, golden yellow, cinnamon brown and green.

This transfer is rarely seen on the market and will be a special abc plate in your collection. Not only is it a very old alphabet plate but it it has the beginning of the alphabet, ABC, transfer printed across the well of the plate. In addition to the entire ABC alphabet moulded around the perimeter, the plate features a delicious scene of four children at play, Blind Man's Buff. The English called the game Buff rather than Bluff adopted by the Americas.

Condition is excellent, bright and clean. Plates like these were given as gifts to children on special occasions and were used as educational tools, as well. A lovely addition to your ABC collection. Please email me with any questions or if you would like to see additional photos.
