EARLY DOUBLE ALPHABET ABC PLATE
BIRD WITH FLEDGLINGS
Staffordshire England c. 1850
This 7 3/8" plate has a crisp image transfer printed in rich sepia brown with great three color polychrome hand painting, clobbering in shades of cinnamon brown, wine red and leaf green.
In addition to the entire ABC alphabet transfer along the perimeter of the plate, there is the entire alphabet transfered along the edge of the well of the plate. The wonderful scene is of a hidden nest and the female bird bringing home a worm for her growing anxious little chicks.
Delightful imagination !
Because of the rarely seen three color clobbering and this even harder to find double alphabet transfer, this will be a special abc plate in your collection.
Condition is EXCELLENT. No chips, cracks, repairs and no utensil wear.
Plates like these were given as gifts to children on special occasions and were used as educational tools, as well. A lovely addition to your ABC collection.
