RARE CHILD'S TRANSFERWARE PLATE

A TRIFLE FOR MY BOY

LIBERTY

FLOWERS THAT NEVER FADE

Staffordshire England ~ 1840

This very early nursery plate measures a diminutive 5 1/8" in diameter is transfer printed in an elegant dark black with a pearlware glaze. A fancy scalloped rim encircles a press moulded border, much like an ABC plate, but instead of the letters of the alphabet, it reads :

A TRIFLE FOR MY BOY ~ LIBERTY

The center transfer is of a Mother and child looking upon two children and their dog. The verse is from, A Pleasing Variety for the Youthful Mind, 1838.

CHEERFULNESS ~ A cheerful voice & smiling eyes, By every one are loved. While sulky looks and sullen tones, By all are disapproved.

EXCELLENT CONDITION, Never used.
