VERY EARLY CHILDS TRANSFERWARE ALPHABET PLATE
Staffordshire England ~ c. 1840
This fabulous child's antique alphabet plate measuring 6 " in diameter and is transfer printed in a dark black transfer. The plate has the entire alphabet along the rim and a sawtooth edge.
This plate is quite scarce and seldom seen except out of a collectors reserves. The reference is to a Justice of the peace and the transfer shows three young ladies with the riddle caption:
Pray tell us ladies if you can
Who is that highly favored man
Who though he has married many a wife
May be a bachelor all his life
Condition is EXCELLENT. Clean and bright, light inner rim wear. Light weight and beautifully potted.
