EARLY CHILDS STERLING SILVER MUG
ABC with SHEEP ~ LITTLE BO PEEP
William Kerr & Thiery, established by William B. Kerr in Newark, New Jersey in 1855. Makers of flat and tableware, sterling silver and gold dresser ware and jewelry. Purchased by the Gorham Corporation in 1906.
This is a whimsical little child's sterling silver mug, circa 1880. This diminutive piece stands 2 1/8 " tall x 2 3/4 " wide excluding the loop handle. The mug is light weight and beautifully made.
The entire alphabet surrounds this superb mug with vines and flowers flowing through the letters and 13 sheep hidden throughout. Little Bo Peep stands at the front of the cup looking for his lost sheep. A small monogram to the bottom.
The condition of this exceptional mug is EXCELLENT, clean and bright, fully marked. Light wear and some denting near the base consistent with age. It is amazing that this little piece was made for a child so long ago!
Children's early silver mugs of this quality are quite scarce and highly sought after. This is the finest example of a silver ABC mug we have seen.
