Gorham Sterling Versailles pattern sterling silver spoon has in its bowl a day, in 1891 of Los Angeles, Ca. preserved in time. This souvenir or memory of a long ago day has been frozen in time for any and all to see! The fabulous re-creation of the famous church on the plaza was been performed with both acid etching and hand engraving, see the photo supplied of the church from approximately the same time period (which can be further in-large, #5 in line), its the one with the horse & buggy in front and a small version supplied with the close up of the inside artwork of the spoon. AMAZING, and theirs a photo from a much earlier in time, as well! This beautiful souvenir spoon was dedicated to an event unknown to us, that took place on July 15, 1891; the beauty and meaning this token holds will be appreciate by the millions who know and love the church and its plaza, and also those also who long to visit there. The spoon measures larger than most souvenir spoons at 5 7/8 inches long and weighs a hefty 29 .94 grams, 1 .06 oz or 0 .96 oz troy; its larger than a standard size teaspoon and all though large by souvenir spoon standards, it is what you might expect from this first class company and the pattern chosen; the Versailles, this multi cherub motif pattern, by Gorham was copyrighted in 1888. A photo of the front page of the period's catalog is supplied; see photo 6. The spoon's details are sharp and crisp and it displays no damage, only a few light scratches, which would polish out, if one so desired. This would be a beautiful memento and would make a wonderful gift / or great addition to any collection for use or display ( a great conversation starter used as a server for condiments, mints or nuts, etc. at holidays or other gatherings ) ( N3128 )
