Art Deco era Jenny Lind pattern baby spoon by Weidlich Sterling is a classic and this one is without monogram. It was designed in 1938 by Alfred J. Flander and is in excellent vintage estate condition.
The beautiful spoon measures 2 3/4 inches long and has a nice loop for the person feeding the baby to slip their finger through for the control of the spoon; the loop will also work just as well for the older baby / toddler to grasp as they learn to feed themselves. Another manufacture's ad about this style of spoon reads: "To the little tot learning to eat it is practically indispensable." Nothing has ever been found which the chubby fist can grasp so conveniently or which carries the food so safely." The Jenny Lind weighs 0.48 oz Troy or 14.8 grams and it is hallmarked, Sterling, it also bears Weidlich's owl mark and displays only very light age appropriate wear to the finish, no monogram and nothing that detracts from its stunning appeal only that that affirms its age and authenticity. A wonderful stand alone baby shower gift, christening gift, great addition to a collection or perhaps it finishes the accessories to Grandmother's flatware set or yours. ( N3779 )
Every baby should be "born with a silver spoon in his or her mouth (so to speak). We in a day of anti-bacterial everything, have forgotten that silver is the original germ fighter and why our flatware and surgical instruments were original made with it.... do you remember your history? Of course it is beautiful...... not the answer; silver is germicidal. It does not just resist the growth of bacteria, viruses etc., in fact it actually kills them, just by being what it is, silver! Our ancestors may not have understood the science or that bacteria, viruses etc., cannot exist on silver’s molecular structure, it actual destroys bacteria, viruses etc., they cannot co-exist at the molecular level on it but they knew it worked!
