Wilcox Co. Silver Plate c.1880's lily pad silver plated pickle / candy castor complete with fresh from the farm pickle vines and cucumbers on its original frosted cut to clear melon glass covered glass bowl make this rare set a true treasure ( a c.1885 Crown pattern Wm. Rogers pickle fork* and a same year pickle knife* have been paired with the caster for photos only-please see the photos for more info ). The base measures 9 1/2 inches by 7 1/2 inches with a 10 1/2 inches tall handle. It is in lovely condition, very shiny with very little if any noticeable plate lose. The melon cut to clear bowl is amazing and displays perfectly. There are on close inspection a couple of tiny flea bites on the lid's mating lip edge and one anomaly underside the edge of the lid, as best it can be described (since it couldn't be photographed with my equipment) as a small cloudy bubble under the rolled edge of the lid; I cannot feel anything different at that location, and this is mentioned to be forth right in the description. There are a few other typical antique blown glass anomalies, as one would expect to find with antique blown glass; as small original areas of slag on the bowl's interior from the original glass manufacturing process. Its Victorian creators used a fabulous silver-plated masterpiece for the lid's finale and even have hidden in plain site a favored Victorian character, a tiny winged bug. This is an amazing piece of beauty, utility and history.

Beautiful casters such as this have such wonderful new lives today; for elegant caches, as candy 'jar's for the gourmet's after-dinner chocolates or to hold a treat that will 'make' your night cap with the S.O. or guests extra special. We are sure you have lots of ideas for a piece as lovely as this in your home or office. ( N2812 )
