This c.1882 Reed & Barton, no.665 silver-plate dolphin footed with archangel columned pickle caster in very good to excellent condition has the number 665 stamped on its underside along with the wording 'MFD & PLATED BY REED BARTON' and is ready for you. It stands 9 1/4 inches tall with its handle raised to 'the carry' position and is a mixture of oxidized and bright shining silver plate as it is shown in its lightly hand polished original condition.

.....Today's pickle jars have 'new lives' - for the fabulous fancy olives everyone loves and as caches for that special must have candy/chocolate treat found in our dining rooms, the bedroom, at our offices, in our kitchens, ......?

The diameter of the high polished silver-plate pad on which the insert sets is 3 1/4 inches while the the distance between the backs of the archangels where the insert sets is 3 3/4 inches. The distance between the front toes of opposing dolphin column supports is 5 3/4 inches. We have detected only a few areas of minor wear and most of that appears to where the insert has sat for over 139 years.

The scarce Reed & Barton's silver-plate Vendome pattern pickle fork is included with your set (it is not the original one), but it is very like the original Vendome Reed & Barton pickle fork shown / pictured with the caster in the "1882 R&B Catalogue", ( photo no. 4 is a photo of the actual page in the catalogue with castor a number 665 on it ) Both are in good to very good condition. Please find on photo 9, your fork displayed on a copy of the Dec. 2, 1884 Patent 15586. Some may well be thinking that this was 2 years prior to its patent being issued..and you are correct-that's true! If you are interested see photo 9 for the rest of the story and more information. The cut glass pickle jar included with your set isn't the original; it fits correctly and functions properly and is approximately age correct; it is also free of chips and cracks on our inspection.
