Miriam Haskell older Horseshoe marked, set of glass turquoise brooch and earrings in very good to excellent condition that has tons of rhinestone rose montee in its layers. We can detect none of the rhinestones missing around the brooch's large central rhinestone; the rose montee are almost too numerous to count (we cannot see any tiny metal montee shells that have lost their sparkle). The glass turquoise stones are the wonderful Art Deco flat 'aspirin' style. These are early post-WWII. In keeping with metal still being in short supply after WWII; the backing of the brooch and the earrings being different; tell us a great deal about the age of these pieces. The pretty filigree mixed metal earring backs with their remnant traces of silver plating are of different metals, one of brass and the other metal appearing of possibly copper before being plated, a tell-tale sign, that metal for jewelry still wasn't plentiful at the time this piece was made, just after WWII. Here is beauty and wearable history too! The solid rhodium plated clip covering for the back of the brooch, signed Miriam Haskell in an oval cartouche would have probably been one of the first ones of that style with her signature. The brooch measures 1 1/2 inches by 1 1/4 inches by 1/2 inch proud and the earrings measured 7/8 inches round; one earring has Miriam Haskell in the horseshoe cartouche and both have properly functioning 'French' clips; a VERY collectable, beautiful ... and yes even a quite wearable set of HISTORY for any collection! Miriam Haskell Jewelry is beautiful, classic, stylish and distinctive; one of the most recognizable designer styles though out the decades since the 1920's. These are just a few of the reasons her jewelry has retained and continues to increase in value; as well as, remained so collectible. The great designers that followed Frank Hess; Robert Clark, Peter Raines, Larry Vrba, Millie Petronzio and Robert Lee Morris though out the years have managed to carry on the classic style first developed by Frank Hess with Ms. Haskell, while adding their own subtle and not so subtle touches and flare. If it is not obvious, we are fans!
