Vintage CastleCliff black English cut glass multiple pendant (gold washed) or gold over sterling silver earrings appear to have been seldom if ever worn and are ready to wear.
The earrings settings were created by CastleCliff and patented by one of Castle Cliff's founders and first designers, Clifford Furst, his Patent 138332, was awarded, on July 18, 1944. The black elements used are 'English-cut' facet glass and they dance and play with the light beautifully when they are worn. The earrings are large, measuring 1 1/2 inches long by 1 1/4 inches wide, as when worn.
‘English cut' is the name of the early chunkier irregular facet glass elements used in the construction of these earrings, it does not designate their source; it only designates the chunkier cut of the crystals from which the designer chose to create. These will display a minor desirable amount of age appropriate mellowing with light wear to the finish, nothing in my opinion which detracts from their stunning appeal (some might consider small signs of vintage use undesirable), I revel in a find like this as proof that affirms the age and authenticity of the pieces, they will receive a gentle professional hand cleaning, if needed, but no attempt will be made to cover up their vintage previous 50 to 80 beautiful years of life. Your questions about a specific item for sale in my shop are always welcome. These are a stand alone accessory, perfect for your power lunch Mondays, church on Sunday, that interview on Thursday and anything else in between!

Castlecliff's ad motto starting in 1945 until their end in 1970 was "The Talked about Jewelry" and almost every piece of their jewelry we have picked up makes us realize why! Prior to Castlecliff the company began life in 1937 as Castlemark and signed its creations briefly by the same name from 1941 until the name change in 1945 to Castlecliff; finding some of these scarce early signed pieces can truly be a FIND! Beautiful design, components, construction and execution, rank them among the finest jewelry companies the U.S.A. has ever produced. Wonderful designers too; a name like Larry Vrba, had his historical design beginnings there as head designer. Fascinating beautiful and innovative pieces like this one remain in excellent condition after all these years and they are always on our hunt list. (K7009)
