James W. Tuft's Kate Greenway character toothpick, match or Hors d'oeuvres pick urn holder featuring a very detail dressed Ms. Greenway Victorian young woman with an urn on a pedestal in excellent hand polished condition, with only very minor evidence it was ever used (a few tiny specks of tarnish in the bottom of the actual holder). His amazing attention to detail and care for the authenticity to Ms. Greenway's characters surely played a role in this series' popularity in late 1800's when her books were so popular. ( Did you know many of her books are being reprinted with multinational cooperation.) This piece is marked on the bottom, James W. Tufts, Boston, Warranted, Quadruple Plated in a circle with a 4 pointed star in the center of which is a 'T', Its model number or catalogue number is 3404 beneath the logo. The '0' here when looked at closely appears to look like a 'C', the 'C' appears to be a partially struck zero as that is what is seen on others of this model. Other Tufts pieces have been seen with a 'C' instead of the '0'. It is 5 inches at its tallest point and the base spread is 4 7/8 inches by 2 3/4 inches at the tips of the feet or the platform span is 3 inches by 2 inches; the diameter across the opening of the holder is 1 13/16 inches. This piece would be lovely on your canape tray holding picks for the hors d'oeuvres at a party or on your holiday buffet performing a similar function; we've also seen it used to hold stickpins.(K1473)
