James W. Tuft's Kate Greenway character and toothpick, match or Hors d'oeuvres pick urn style holder featuring a very detail dressed Victorian young woman with an urn on a pedestal is in excellent condition, with only very minor evidence it was ever used (a few tiny specks of tarnish in the bottom of the actual holder). His amazing attention to detail and care for the authenticity to Ms. Greenway's characters surely played a role in this series' popularity in late 1800's when her books were so popular. ( Did you know many of her books are being reprinted with multinational cooperation. It is marked on the bottom, James W. Tufts, Boston, Warranted, Quadruple Plated in a circle with a 4 pointed star in the center of which is a 'T' . There is the number 34C4 beneath the logo. The 'C' seen here is most likely a '0', zero as that is what is seen on others of this model and the, 'C,' is most likely a partially struck zero, also sometimes seen on others. It is 5 inches at its tallest point and the base spread is 4 7/8 inches by 2 3/4 inches at the tips of the feet or the platform span is 3 inches by 2 inches; the diameter across the opening of the holder is 1 13/16 inches. This piece would be particularly lovely on your canape tray holding picks for the hors d'oeuvres at a party or on your holiday buffet performing a similar function; I have seen these Kate Greenway ones with Styrofoam or similar material in the bottom being used to display stickpin collections too.
