Vintage Castlecliff's superb set of Mississippi mud bakelite, Persian glass turquoise & creamy glass pearl elements consisting of a 2 strand necklace and 14mm bakelite ball earrings is being offered for your consideration. This rare set is in excellent vintage condition.
Castlecliff's ad motto starting in 1945 until their end in 1970 was "The Talked about Jewelry" and almost every piece of it we have picked up makes us realize why! Beautiful designs, components, construction and execution, rank this company among the finest jewelry companies the U.S.A. has ever produced. Prior to Castlecliff the company began life in 1937 as Castlemark and signed its creations briefly by the same name, from 1941 until the name change to Castlecliff in 1945; finding some of these early signed scarce pieces can truly be a FIND! Wonderful designers too; a name like Larry Vrba, had his historical design beginnings there as head designer. Fascinating, beautiful and innovative pieces like this one remain in excellent condition after all these years for good reason and their jewelry is always on our hunt list.
This set is one that makes us believe their ad slogan, "The Talked about Jewelry" was true; beautifully realistic glass turquoise and glass pearls mixed exquisitely with marbled bakelite, now really, who would of thought this combo would be so fantastic, Castlecliff's designers obvious did and BOY were they right! The perfect weight necklace for all seasons and a lovely length too; the shortest length strand is 18 inches and the longest is 20 inches. The box clasp functions properly and is signed, Castlecliff without the copyright logo, indicating production prior to 1955. The earrings are also signed, Castlecliff, on their classic French clip backs. The box clasp displays light fading and small scratches most noticeable on the bottom side and the glass pearls are in beautiful condition displaying only the occasional tiny nick to the glass pearls nacre, nothing in our option that detracts from the beauty of the set; only that that confirms its age and authenticity. Amazing condition every bit the quality of a Haskell, Eugene or De Mario, this one will be a pure joy for wear or display for many years, occasions, seasons, events and ensembles to come, to take you from the office to lunch and shopping with the girls or to that evening night's out on the town; the all round classic set you will be glad you own!
