Art Nouveau, large Three Graces cabinet display plate depicting the ladies with their attending cherub following; it also has a beautiful yellow border decorated with plenty of gold and medallions of additional cherub and it is being offered for your consideration. There must be something very special happening to demand such excitement; a palm bearing cherub and 4 cymbal playing cherubs announce the festivities around the border of this plate, a party, a wedding..... wish we knew! The plate has an artist's signature that we were unable to discern, it appears the transfer was installed in reverse, we mechanically reversed the signature so the writing flowed in the correct direction but were still unable to make out the signature. The plate is a large, 9 5/8 inches in diameter and has approximately 75% of it's gold trim remaining, no chips, cracks or hairlines; some rub wear in the center to the gilding from stacking perhaps (this accounts for most of the 25% of gold loss noted). It does have the era typical production anomalies; glaze skips, small pits and tiny iron specks, affirming its age and authenticity, nothing in our opinion that detracts from its stunning appeal. The beautiful yellow border is accented with gold and aqua trim and medallions of cherubs surrounded by hand applied gold beading. Gold beading also frames the wonderful scene in the center of the plate. The plate is marked on the back with mark no. 21 from Robert E, Rontgen's book, Marks of German, Bohemian & Austrian Porcelain; indication it was produced between 1891-1918 by the Porcelain Factory Victoria of Altrohlau, Austria. Cabinet plates of this size are scarce, but ones in this lovely a condition are very scarce indeed. A special find and a wonderful addition to any collection! (J1364)
