Rare Jack in the Box figural earrings from the Art Deco era are being offered for your consideration. They are fine figural master pieces that might also be referred to as clowns, jesters, fairies or pixies: however one look at Reja's famous sterling 1940's jack in the box set and there will be no doubt why we have referred to them as jack in the box figurals. You can also see Reja's famous Jack in the Box figurals in Brunialti's famous book America Costume Jewelry 1935 - 1953 on pages 221 and 222. These are in very good to excellent vintage condition. They are depicted as if they have just jumped out of their boxes, laughing with their mouths and eyes wide open! Each is slightly different too! Constructed of jeweler's white or pot metal they have been permanently 'tinted', by a form of translucent, what we will call 'enameling' that we have only seen on deco, 1920 - 1940 era pot metal jewelry. The areas of both where the stones have been set, is shaded gold while the rest of one is greenish blue and the other is a bronze color. They have such expressive features. Do you think these may have been a for-runner for their infamous cousins a decade or two later? Each measuring 1 inch by 3/4 inch and their screw-back mechanisms function properly. These display desirable age appropriate mellowing with light to medium wear to their finishes and under close or magnified inspection some light desirable peppering to the stones may be observed, nothing in our opinion that detracts from their stunning appeal only that that affirms their age and authenticity. Note: it does appear that at least the clear rhinestones in these earrings have been professionally replaced during the life of these earrings and are not original. They are a timeless additions to your accessories wardrobe which will add a striking stand-alone statement with lasting appeal! (G045)
