Large c.1891 Staffordshire, England transferware turkey platter with a soft green gilded floral design by John Edwards kiln works is being offered for your consideration. The platter is in excellent condition and bears both an impressed and stamped marking. It is impressed with a multi-point star, Imperial, a partially legible registry number (Rd 1531__) and an illegible pair of letters; it is also stamped with John Edwards, England, Porcelaine de Terre, Trademark, Rd 172136 and an ornate shield. John Edwards used this shield mark from 1880-1900, the registry number 172136 dates to 1891 of the impressed registry number. The platter measures a very generous, 16 1/2 by 11 1/4 inches. There is only light wear to the gilding and light utensil marks to report, no chips, cracks or hairlines, nothing in our opinion that detracts from its stunning appeal only that that affirms its age and authenticity. There are the era typical production anomalies of stilt marks, iron specks, dust 'bumps' and small glaze skips, as well as, age appropriate light crazing of antique pottery. This platter is as perfect for display in your collection as it is being used at your next gourmet buffet or holiday meal! (C039)
