This is a beautifully 1943 illustrated cloth-like Mother Goose by Ruth Newton, the famous illustrator of children's books. She worked with Whitman for over 20 years, illustrating over 40 titles for them, including The Night Before Christmas, Mother Goose, Kittens and Puppies, and Peter Rabbit. In the late 1940s, Newton began designing dolls, including one called "Amosandra". It is said that some of the Nancy Ann Dolls were based on Newton's illustrations. Some of her books were sold in Nancy Ann sets.
The book shows a little bit of shelf wear and last page has a unnoticeable tiny tear along outside of last page, but nothing is missing. Binding is good. Each page is signed. Cute, cute book!
