This amazing piece of vintage art glass was produced on the Isle of Murano by Salviati Glass Co. It is a ruby red serpent (or fish, or dolphin) which stands tall, mouth open for use as a vase. The ruby glass has a diamond optic pattern and the creatures features are created with applied crystal and gold aventurine. I've been told that the Salviati glass company has produced forms similar to this since the 1890s but this piece is likely from the 1950s era.
This vase measures 7 1/8" in height and 4 1/4" in diameter at the base.
In very good condition I can find only one minor flaw and that is a pinpoint nick at the tip of one of the tail fins. It is barely noticeable and does not detract from this stunning piece of Italian art glass.
