This striking piece of Mid Century Hungarian art work is a shallow box, which may have been a cigarette box or simply a trinket box. It is made of a fairly lightweight metal, possibly Pewter of Aluminum, with a wonderful textured design around the outside and a wooden lining on the inside. On one corner inside the lid it is marked Moga which I believe is the artist Alexander Moga.
Iparmuveszeti Vallalat was an applied arts company which sold hand made articles that were crafted by a variety of artisans in Hungary.
This piece measures 4 1/4" square and 1 3/4" in height. It shows a little light wear from age but is otherwise in excellent condition.
