Fungus art is a very old art form and not much has survived. This rare set of 3 pieces are signed and dated and all are in excellent condition. The largest one is 7" long by 6" tall and hand carved inside is a highly detailed grist mill. There is a large water wheel and flume attached to the mill surrounded by fantastically detailed trees, bushes, and grass. It is signed W.L.M. and dated 1913. The second piece is 6 1/2" long by 4" tall. Signed W.L.M. on the front and on the back Krumville, August 1911. The front is hand carved and pictures a wonderful old homestead surrounded by trees, bushes, and grass - birds and what appears to be a cornfield surrounded by a primitive fence. The third piece is 5" long by 4" tall and has a hand carved church and other buildings. I can find no date or signature on this piece. All 3 of these pieces were made in and picture places in Krumville, NY, also known as Kromville. It is in Ulster County NY, near Woodstock, and is one of the oldest and smallest hamlets in NY. Please look closely at the intricate hand carved detail. These are rare pieces of a lost art.
