Edmund J. Massicotte was a well loved French Canadian artist, born in Montreal, who lived from 1875 - 1929. His prints represent nostalgic and sentimental illustrations of French Canadian folklore and customs in and around 1900. His highly detailed prints are prized now for showing a way of life that was passing quickly before his own eyes and in his own time. This print, "Les Sucres" was produced in 1918 and appears to be in its original gold gilt frame, all in excellent condition. It pictures men collecting sap from maple trees and boiling it down.
