This terracotta tile portrait is a rare and unusual find. It was probably made in the later part of 19th century or early 20th century. I have not taken any of these tiles off of there board frame so it is difficult to say where the piece was made. It appears to be in the style of the glazed terracotta pieces that were made in Austria and Germany. This Historismus style was very popular during this period and was influenced by medieval an renaissance pieces. It is 43" tall - 25" wide and varies from 2" to 3" deep depending on the various pieces of tile. Excellent workmanship and detail and in great antique condition. The framing is not the greatest. This would be wonderful remounted in another frame or could actually be taken off and mounted to directly to a wall.
