This gorgeous hand fluted Birks Sterling Ring Box is in the bell shape and stands 1.5 inches high x 2 inches at the base.
While many of Birks' boxes were farmed out to manufacturers in England to be made for them, this model was only produced in Birks Canadian Atelier in Winnipeg. and made only for a few years. The fluted box began in the 1920s as a straight sided or "canister" model made for Edward VIII, then the Duke of Windsor who was a good customer and close friend of William Birks. The Fluted Bell was made available followed briefly in the late 30s.
Single slot. Black velvet over foam is a re-line to accommodate wider shanks on "modern" rings than the earlier boxes allowed.
CONDITION: In overall excellent vintage condition with no dints. Box opens and closes tightly as it should. No warping. Interior lid is gilt over silver. Markings: On the underside. Birks Canada Sterling.
