A huge sterling silver ladle with London Hallmarks for George William Adams is simple, heavy and elegant.
The ladle measures 13.25 inches long while the bowl is slightly over 4 inches X 3 inches X 1.50 inches deep. There is what was probably a family crest of an antlered stag at the top of the handle, shown in the photographs. Hallmarks on the back of the stem are also shown in the photographs. The piece weighs in at over 11 ounces on my scale but I will have it weighed on a proper postal scale and make correct the weight if necessary.
CONDITION: In overall excellent antique condition with no bends or dents. A well earned patina. There was little if any tarnish on this piece when I acquired it and I've just washed it with soap and water and buffed it dry with a flannel cloth. Minor scratches are well in keeping with age and use. Full Hallmarks. Circa 1858, of British origin.
Our sterling smalls (this one's not so small) are always packaged for safe international travel and shipped at no charge to our clients.
This is an understated and very graceful piece.
