This is an exceptionally well detailed & executed signed Japanese Bronze dating to the 19th century.
I believe it depicts Maitreya. Typically pensive, the monkey rests its' cheek on one hand while holding onto its' leg with the other.
The bronze retains its' original dark brown patina and is refined & brilliantly detailed work.
Sitting on a 3.5" custom crafted bronze patina finished wood stand that is modern, the complete piece stands 7.5" high. The cube shaped base measures 3.5" all round and is not crafted of bronze. The Monkey was crafted in the lost wax method. Without the base it sits 4" tall.
I do not read Japanese and cannot identify the signature.
In excellent condition. 19th Century Bronze. Base is a later addition, made for the piece.
A wonderful example of fine Japanese bronze.
