I so wanted to gather all these beautiful gemstone Tibetan beads in one necklace and here it is, one long necklace of gorgeous handcrafted beads! The white cultured freshwater pearls, black Onyx, orange Carnelian, and teal Turquoise are all capped with brass ends, while the dark blue Lapis Lazuli is inlaid in a brass drum shaped beads. The individual beads are separated by small brass round beads. Along this necklace you will find a wheel of good fortune! The coin shaped wheel of Turquoise, with spokes of inlaid red Coral and brass and a dark blue center. Closure is with a brass swivel trigger clasp with an extension chain. The Tibetan beads I have used in this necklace are all individually hand crafted by artisans that are living in exile in Nepal. The traditional techniques used in the making of these beads are hand down from generation to generation. Since each bead is hand crafted individually, there are always slight differences and imperfections in each bead, making them all the more distinct and valuable.
Turquoise is associated with gods and goddesses of many ancient cultures from China, the Middle East, and the Americas. It was worn by Pharoahs and Aztec Kings. Native Americans used the stone symbolizing the sea and sky coming together, to bless warriors and hunters. Turquoise is thought to attract prosperity and success, enhance creativity and communication. Turquoise is the alternate birthstone for December. Almost all turquoise has been treated with a transparent resin in order to stabilize it, as it is a fragile stone in an untreated state.
Carnelian is associated with the heart and emotional warmth, considered by some to promote courage, confidence and self-motivation. It is the alternate birthstone for July. In Arabic and Oriental cultures it was thought to protect the wearer from the 'evil eye' of envious persons.
Black Onyx is a black microcrystalline quartz. It is thought to provide spiritual inspiration, and allow the control of emotions and reduce stress in the wearer. It is the alternate birthstone for the month of February, and the anniversary gemstone for the 10th year of marriage.
Lapis lazuli gets its name from the Latin and Persian (Iranian) words for `blue stone'. The color of this gemstone ranges from light blue to deep royal blue. The darker the blue the more valuable the gemstone. It is characterized by glittering specks of golden pyrite and imitation Lapis lazuli lacks the pyrite specks. This stone was associated by ancient Egyptians with deity and royalty, and also motherhood. It is thought to bring peace and cure depression. The best quality Lapis lazuli comes from Afghanistan, where it has been mined for centuries. It is also found in Russia and Colorado, USA.
