This purple and green colored long necklace is made from a variety of cultured freshwater Pearls and Amethyst beads. I have used star cut dog-teeth Amethyst, faceted rondelles of translucent Amethyst and cultured freshwater pearls colored a dark and light purple. Among these you will find a purple and gold Cloisonne beads too! The segments of purple are connected by bright green cultured freshwater rice pearls. The spacer beads are tiny rounds of green natural Peridot. This long and lovely necklace has a sterling silver round toggle with an Amethyst cabochon. A pair of matching earrings completes the set.
Amethyst is the birthstone for February and Wednesday's stone. Purple Amethyst worn as jewelry keeps the wearer calm, sober and stable, also helping to alleviate anxiety. Europeans consider Amethyst to signify faithful lovers and is a favorite gift to a loved one on St. Valentine's Day. Dod teeth Amethyst is so called due to the mix of white Quartz laid down in stripes with the Amethyst.
Peridot is the birthstone for the month of August and for the 16th wedding anniversary. It is a beautiful olive green gemstone formed during volcanic eruptions and found in volcanic rock. Peridot was thought to make ones dreams come true.
Pearls are thought to represent innocence and integrity. A favorite with brides. It is the birthstone for June. Cultured Pearls are formed in both marine and freshwater bivalve mollusks (oysters, mussels, etc.) when irritating ‘foreign’ substances become trapped within the folds of the bivalve’s mantle. Not all such ‘pearls’ can be used for jewelry. Natural pearls are formed without any human intervention and are quite rare and hence very valuable. Cultured pearls are mass-produced in a ‘pearl farm’ where humans introduce the irritating substance into the mollusks to create the pearl. Most freshwater pearls are cultured pearls formed within mussels.
Enameled Cloisonné beads are handcrafted in China, where artisans begin with a copper base, create patterns by soldering brass wire in cells. Enamel paint is filled in the patterns and fired to permanently fix the colors. The painting and firing process can be repeated as many as four times. The bead is then smoothed and polished, and the exposed brass wire edges are gold or silver plated.
