I love this brightly colored playful pair of earrings, made with hand-faceted rondelles of Mexican Fire Opal. The color of the beads range from transparent yellow to translucent orange and finally red. I have dressed up these sparkly beads with gold-plated Pewter spacers and the earwires are of 14k gold-fill. Lightweight and fun pair of earrings!
The Mexican Fire Opal is one of the many varieties of Opal found in nature. It is not known for its play on color as known in Opals rather its distinctive color separates it from other Opals. The Mexican Fire Opal ranges in color from bright sunny yellow to fiery red orange. Unlike other Opals it is translucent to transparent. It is commonly mined in many states in Mexico, and also in Oregon, USA and in British Columbia, Canada.
14K Gold-Filled (14K GF) beads and components are made by bonding a layer of 14K gold with high pressure and heat to base metal and then shaped as desired. Industry standard requires that the quantity of gold be at least 1/20th of the total weight and the Karat measurement must be marked.
